Artists’ Alley

Artists’ Alley

Artists’ Alley in Kyiv connects Andriivskyi Descent with Volodymyrska Hill Park, stretching from the upper station of the funicular along the picturesque hillside near St. Andrew’s Church.

The place is often called the “Kyiv Montmartre,” drawing comparisons with the famous artistic district of Paris where artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Vincent van Gogh, and Pablo Picasso once lived and worked.

Since 1984, celebrations of Kyiv Day have been closely connected with Andriivskyi Descent, where art fairs and open-air exhibitions were traditionally held. Over time, this transformed the area into one of the city’s most important centers of creative life.

Today, Artists’ Alley serves as a space for open artistic communication, where painters and creators from Kyiv and across Ukraine can present and sell their works. Special exhibition structures with canopies and recreation areas have been installed for this purpose.

Following a major reconstruction completed in 2019, the alley gained modern infrastructure including new lighting, wooden paving, surveillance cameras, Wi-Fi access, and illuminated railings. At the same time, it preserved its main role — remaining a living cultural space where art, history, and the urban atmosphere of Kyiv come together.
