Church of Saint George the Victorious is one of the largest — and at the same time one of the fastest-built — churches in Kyiv. Construction began in April 2001, and the entire building was completed in just 73 days, a result that was entered into the Guinness World Records.
The church was erected for the 10th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence on the initiative and with the support of former Minister of Transport and Communications of Ukraine Heorhiy Kirpa. The consecration took place in August 2001, while the first episcopal liturgy was held in December of the same year.
The church was designed by architect Roman Syvenkyi, who combined elements of Byzantine style and Art Nouveau to create a distinctive architectural image. The building rises to a height of 42 meters, and its interior decoration was completed by artists of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine, who covered the walls with biblical scenes.
Particular attention is drawn to the altar with its wooden iconostasis adorned with gilded angel figures, emphasizing the solemnity and spiritual grandeur of the church.
