The House of Trade at Lvivska Square is one of the most recognizable skyscrapers of Soviet-era Kyiv. Its construction lasted from 1968 to 1981 based on the design of architect Valentyn Yezhov, and the building itself was conceived as part of a large-scale reconstruction of the square.
The 25-story structure, rising nearly 94 meters high, was at the time of its opening the tallest building in Kyiv and the second tallest in Ukraine — after the “Dnipro Towers” in Dnipro. Before the skyscraper was erected, the site was occupied until 1968 by 1850s-era buildings belonging to the Osadchyi family.
Despite its purely functional Soviet aesthetic, the building remains an important urban landmark of Lvivska Square and serves as a reminder of the ambitious architectural projects that shaped the capital during the second half of the 20th century.
