Lvivska Square

Lvivska Square

Lvivska Square is one of Kyiv’s oldest squares, located in the Shevchenkivskyi district in the historic area of Old Kyiv. It has been known since the times of Kyivan Rus as a marketplace and an important defensive hub connected to the Golden Gate of Kyiv and the former Jewish Gate. The square received its modern name in 1869 from the Lviv Gate of the Old Kyiv Fortress of the 17th–18th centuries.

Its present appearance is defined by notable examples of Soviet-era architecture, including the House of Trade and the House of Artists. Lviv Square remains an important transport hub linking Old Kyiv with Podil, Maidan Nezalezhnosti, and Halytska Square.

In 2016, a monument to Anne of Kyiv was unveiled here, emphasizing the historical continuity and symbolic significance of this location for Kyiv.
