The Small Termen Fountain on Volodymyrska Street is one of seven fountains that have survived in Kyiv from the famous series cast at the Alexei Termen factory in 1899–1901 according to the design of the architect Alexander Schile. This fountain is located in a square between Sophia and Mikhailovskaya Squares and is one of two small Termen fountains in the city. The series consisted of eight fountains in total — six large and two small — and served not only as a decoration of the streets, but also as a practical source of water: those who wanted could take water for household needs or water livestock for a small fee, and drinking from a mug was free.
