Striletska Street is one of the oldest streets in Kyiv’s Shevchenkivskyi district, located in the historic area of Old Kyiv. It stretches from Velyka Zhytomyrska Street to Yaroslaviv Val Street, connecting key parts of the city’s historic core.
Formed in the second half of the 17th century, the street emerged on the site of a former streltsy settlement near Saint Sophia Cathedral, alongside fortifications built on ancient princely ramparts.
Today, Striletska Street is home to diplomatic institutions, including the embassies of Finland and Norway, as well as the office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe.
The street is also closely tied to Kyiv’s cultural history: Lesya Ukrainka lived here at different times, alongside notable figures such as architect Dmytro Diachenko, artist and architect Vasyl Krychevsky, educator Tymofii Lubenets, and many other prominent representatives of Ukrainian science and culture.
