Suzirya Theatre is Ukraine’s first engagement-based theater, founded in 1988. It is located at Yaroslaviv Val Street, 14B, in the former apartment of Leonid Rodzianko, where the State Honored Academic Choral Capella Dumka Choir had operated for more than 60 years. Since 1989, this space has become home to the modern history of Suzirya.
One of the theater’s defining features is the participation of leading actors from Kyiv’s major stages — including People’s Artists and Honored Artists of Ukraine, as well as emerging performers. Over the years, its stage has welcomed legends of Ukrainian theater such as Ada Rohovtseva, Bohdan Stupka, Larisa Kadochnikova, Larisa Kadyrova, Raisa Nedashkivska, Nadiia Baturina, Stepan Oleksenko, Mykola Rushkovskyi, and many others.
Both renowned and young directors contribute to its productions, while the repertoire combines classical and contemporary drama. Performances take place on two stages: a main hall with 80 seats and an intimate micro-stage with 21 seats.
Suzirya actively represents Ukraine on the international theater scene. It has participated in festivals across Europe, the Middle East, and the United States, as well as major Ukrainian theater forums, where its productions have received awards, diplomas, and critical acclaim.
Today, Suzirya remains an important center of intellectual chamber theater in Kyiv, combining tradition, experimentation, and a living dialogue with audiences.
