Yaroslava Café (affectionately known by Kyiv residents as “Yaroslavna”) is one of the few places in central Kyiv that has preserved the living atmosphere of the old city.
Opened in 1947, it remained largely unchanged for decades — from its interior and recipes to its unique spirit. Heavy wooden furniture, the creaking of chairs, the staff’s stylized uniforms, and the smell of fresh pastries create a sense of timelessness.
Artists, writers, musicians, and scholars once gathered here, and today locals still bring visitors to “taste Kyiv.”
The café has long become a city legend, known for its simple, affordable, and heartfelt cuisine. Its signature dishes include cinnamon and cherry buns, potato pancakes, and traditional Ukrainian meals.
It has appeared in contemporary Ukrainian literature and in the memories of Kyiv residents, often tied to personal stories — first dates, student years, and family walks.
