The House of Artists at Lvivska Square was built in 1977–1978 for the National Union of Artists of Ukraine. Architecturally, it is a characteristic example of Soviet modernism — restrained, simplified forms that the ideology of the time considered functional and appropriate.
Yet the architects still introduced one striking artistic accent: the façade at the level of the second floor is decorated with seven bronze allegorical female figures representing different branches of art — painting, sculpture, graphic art, architecture, scenography, decorative and applied arts, and art criticism. In fact, this is the building’s only decorative element, but it immediately explains to whom the house belongs.
Inside are exhibition halls that over the decades have hosted hundreds of artistic events. Today, the House of Artists remains a vibrant center of Kyiv’s artistic life — a place where contemporary Ukrainian artists present their works, meet with audiences, and continue a tradition established during the Soviet era, though now filled with an entirely different meaning.
